What type of seizures can Mellow detect? 🕵

Mellow can only detect motor seizures 🧠

Mellow is intended for people with epilepsy that experience generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS) or focal to bilateral generalized tonic-clonic seizures (sometimes know as “Grand Mal” seizures). Mellow can be useful to all patients with these types of motor seizures. They are most feared of seizure types, as they cause the patient to become unconscious and can result in injuries. Often the person affected has no memory of the event and feels really sleepy and tired afterwards.

Mellow uses a motion detector that is set to recognize the shaking movements caused by this type of seizures. When a seizure is detected, an alert is sent to one or more emergency contacts: help is on the way!

Can Mellow detect Focal Motor or Myoclonic seizures? 👋

Sometimes Mellow can detect focal motor seizures, as its detection is based on movement. However, Mellow's main goal is to detect GTCS and focal to bilateral generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and send an alert to an emergency contact so the user can get help.
If you have focal motor seizures and want to keep track of your seizure events, you can self report them with Mellow and see them in your log. If you still want to alert your emergency contact, start a manual alert!

What about absence seizures? 🤷‍♀️

Absence seizures (also called petit mal seizures) are generalized seizures that affect only a person’s awareness, not their movements. Mellow cannot detect absence seizures, since they are not motor seizures. Mellow is the right solution for you only if you have epilepsy with motor seizures.
